So today I was at work, in a patient’s room, and I noticed Dr. E come into the unit and set something down. Judging by the swarm of nurses that appeared almost instantaneously, I guessed that some sort of food had appeared.

I was 100% correct. Food had been dropped off; yummy donuts to be precise! I had one (yes, just one) and it was only a few minutes before they were pretty much all gone. We nurses and nurse aides were all standing there, thanking Dr. E (who had left by that point) amongst ourselves, saying what a wonderful guy he was to have been so kind to just randomly bring us treats. We were just lovin’ Dr. E.

A little while later, someone was straightening up the unit and closed the donut box to throw it away. I walked by, glanced in the trash bin and noticed the donut box on top.

On the box was written, “Happy Doctor’s Day! From your friends at Local Nursing Home.”

That Dr. E… always thinking of us when extra donuts are in the doctor’s lounge!! Hmph! :-)

Seriously, though… Happy Doctor’s Day! I hope lounges everywhere were just overflowing with yummy donuts :-)

I have occasionally thought of doing something like sending pizza to the people who have to work the ED on, say, Christmas, just as a way of saying thanks. Haven’t done it because it might seem wierd. But this makes me think, maybe I should…..

I went completely donut-less on Dr’s day. I guess nobody cares.

So, what brought you to the hospital today?
