Lisa, RN, brings ripe red strawberries to work and asks Julie, RN if she wants one. Julie gratefully eats one. In walks a Neurosurgeon.

Lisa RN: Dr. N, would you like a strawberry?

[The neurosurgeon comes around the desk and eyes the ripe red strawberries. He decides to take one. After eating it, he tries to grab a paper towel from the paper towel dispenser to wipe off his fingers, but there are no towels left.]

Lisa RN: Sorry, Dr. N. (giggles) We don’t have fancy paper towel dispensers like they do in the OR, where all you have to do is wave your hand under it and a paper towel springs forth.

Dr. N, Neurosurgeon: Oh, we don’t have such machines in the OR; we have nurses to do that sort of thing. (evil gleam in eye; Julie and Lisa are not sure if he is serious or not, then decide that he probably is.)

Julie, RN: (joking tone) Well, Dr. N, you definitely won’t find nurses to hand you a towel here in CCU!

[Dr. N, Neurosurgeon smirks and walks away.]

Lisa RN: (to Julie RN) No, we just feed him honey-drenched strawberries instead.

Crap.

you should work in the urgent care, the docs do most things themselves ;)

I have one resident for whom I’ll actually go out of my way to get a cup of coffee. He’s exceptionally bright, funny, compassionate, and willing to work with the nurses. In fact, he’s one of the few who learned early on to talk with, and listen to, the nurses. We like docs like that. Too bad he’s leaving in two weeks!

That’s so funny! I love the nurse’s response. It sounds like life in the military unit when the new little Lieutenant want the senior enlisted personnel to do things his way. He is not willing to except the fact that despite being enlisted the senior personnel are more prepared and have insight that the new Lt. may still be lacking.

Creative minds always have been known to survive any kind of bad training.

Try injecting the next bunch of strawberries with sorbitol. It really enhances the flavor and I’m sure the doc would like several of them ;-)

I’m sure he was being a smart ass…I enjoy interacting with the nurses…I’ve learned to get along with them…I’v got enough BS to deal with

So, what brought you to the hospital today?
